South African Man Dragged to Court for Raping His wife

A 50-year-old and South African man is set to appear in the Zastron Magistrate's Court for allegedly raping his wife, a 54-year-old traditional healer (Sangoma). 

According to police, the incident occurred at about 02:00 on 14 August. The victim said her husband demanded intimacy, but she refused as she was attending to clients at their Refeng-kgotso home. He allegedly grabbed her, forced her to a bedroom, undressed them both, and raped her.

She told the police that her husband then went to sleep after the alleged rape.

The woman reported the rape at 07:00 on 18 August. The Smitfield Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Unit is investigating, police confirmed.

A rape conviction carries a minimum life sentence in South Africa.
